What is Sizechecker?

Sizechecker is a module within ScanneryOne that recommends suitable garment sizes.

Finding the right size is more complex than comparing a single body measurement. The result depends on the correct body measurements, the measurements of the garment and how the garment is intended to fit.

Sizechecker combines all of this information in one process.

ScanneryOne calculates body measurements according to ISO standards or according to additional measurement systems and individual customer requirements. Sizechecker compares these measurements with the garment data and takes movement allowance and material stretch into account.

A size recommendation is generated within seconds - even for any number of garments at the same time.

How SizeChecker works

Sizechecker works in five steps.

On one side, the body is scanned and measured according to standards such as ISO 8559-1. On the other side, the relevant garments and their measurements are defined.

The system then determines which body measurements fit into each garment size and compares these ranges with the measurements of the scanned person.

What is Fit? Fit describes how a garment is intended to sit on the body - for example close-fitting, regular or loose, with enough room for movement.

1. Scan the body

The person stands inside the BodyLoop. More than 30 cameras capture the body from different angles at the same time.

The scan itself takes only 0.3 seconds. The body is captured without contact and with millimetre-level precision.

Because the scan is so fast, the person only needs to hold the position for a moment. This reduces the risk of movement affecting the scan. Once the capture is complete, the person can leave the scanner and the next person can prepare.

2. Measure the body

ScanneryOne calculates the required body measurements from the scan.

Depending on the application, these may include chest circumference, arm length, back length, waist circumference or hip circumference.

The standard measurement definitions are based on ISO 8559-1. Additional standards and individual measurement definitions can also be added and stored in the system.

ISO 8559-1: An international standard that defines where and how body measurements for clothing are taken. This gives manufacturers and software systems a common understanding of each measurement.

Digital body model: A three-dimensional representation of the scanned body from which the software calculates measurements.

3. Measure the garment

To recommend a size, Sizechecker also needs the measurements of the garments - for every garment and every available size.

These measurements are often already available in size charts and can be transferred into the system. Missing measurements can be taken directly from the garment.

4. Define which body measurements fit the garment

Garment measurements alone are not enough. A jacket needs additional room so that the person can move comfortably.

Together with the customer, we define how the garment should fit and how much the material can stretch. Based on this information, Sizechecker determines the ideal, minimum and maximum body measurements for each garment size.

Example

A jacket has a chest circumference of 100 cm. The ideal body chest circumference is 90 cm. Together, we define that body measurements between 85 and 95 cm are still suitable for the jacket. This range is stored in the system. The same process is then applied to all other relevant measurements, such as arm length and back length.

Ease allowance: The difference between the garment measurement and the body measurement. A jacket with a 100 cm chest circumference may be designed for an ideal body chest circumference of 90 cm. The 10 cm difference is the ease allowance.

5. Find the right size

Sizechecker compares the measured body dimensions with the stored garment data.

First, the system checks which sizes fit across all relevant measurements. It then calculates how far the body measurements are from the ideal values for each suitable size.

The recommended size is the one with the smallest total deviation.

The calculation takes only a few seconds. Any number of garments can be checked at the same time - from one jacket to a complete clothing set.

If none of the available sizes meets the defined requirements, Sizechecker shows this as well.

Total deviation: The individual differences between the measured body dimensions and the ideal body dimensions are added together. The smaller the total, the closer the size is to the defined ideal fit.
